Finding Her Place at Power Hour
“Before I started Power Hour, I was afraid I wouldn’t fit in or be a great Peer Leader.”
That is where Angelina began. It is not where she stayed.
Every fall, Power Hour opens the same way: a room full of high school girls who do not yet know each other. Power Hour is the career-readiness program at Girls Inc. of Greater Miami, a year-long arc through branding, event planning, design, media, and leadership, with one-on-one time alongside women working in the fields these girls are dreaming toward.
For Angelina, the room she walked into nervous became the room she led.
“I have never fit in so quickly or felt so comfortable to be around new and diverse individuals. Because of this experience, I feel more capable and willing to lead and be myself around others.”
That shift happened because women showed up for her. By the leadership sessions, time with mentors was the single thing the girls named as the most valuable part of the whole year. Angelina carried it forward as a Peer Leader, the girl who now helps the next one find her footing faster.
A new cohort is walking through that door this fall. Power Hour 2026-27 is underway, and every one of these girls deserves what Angelina found: a mentor who believes in her before she fully believes in herself. You do not need a title or a script. You need an hour, a story, and a little faith in what a girl can do.
